Paramount's literature says the studio "offers an in-depth tour of its facilities that provides a unique look at various historic buildings and landscapes. . . " Translated into the common tongue that means a lot of riding around and looking at building exteriors. But don't let that worry you. You do get to see true pieces of Hollywood history, like one of the original Forrest Gump benches. (Pregnant women and people with heart conditions are cautioned not to stare at the bench for too long.) And for the Alicia Silverstone fan club, the tour stops at a courtyard featured in many movies including Clueless.

Most tours stop at two of the production theaters on the lot: the historic Gower Theater used by production staff to screen movies and shows still in the process of filming or post-production, and the elegant Paramount Theater where blockbuster films such as "Saving Private Ryan" have premiered. Because it is used strictly for industry screenings, the theater is pristine. There is no gum on the arms of the seats, no sticky soda residue on the floor or screen, no popcorn in the aisles. And the sound system is fantastic. In other words, it’s nothing like what you are used to. Years ago I caught a screening of Congo here, and not even that horrible film could diminish the joy of being in the Paramount theater.

One of the most photographed features of Paramount Studios is the Bronson Gate Entrance. This gate dates back to the early days of the studio and has been featured in many movies. The gate is aligned so that the famous "Hollywood sign" can be seen directly through it.

Everyone who takes the Paramount tour is a VIP. You get to ride around on a nice golf cart and wave at everyone else who has to walk.
